All That Glitters: The Party Edit
Is it even December without a scattering of shiny sequins and an awkward office party? After last year’s mini-meltdown, we planned our party season outfits ahead to avoid any hissy-fits.
That way we can spend more time sippin’ champs. Win win.
Prefer velvet over sequins? Yeah, this season is a close call. Once upon a time, we were firm believers that all that glitters is gold and absolutely worth wearing but now, what with this velvet crush we’re having, it’s almost a cert we’ll be wearing something velvety. And maybe something sparkly too. Because it is Christmas après tout and understated is not the look we’re going for.
Here’s how to style the latest collection of magical partywear pieces chez Harrison.
Make like Rozanna Purcell and shimmy into lurex leggings for the festive season. This Benetton pair are a style steal at £29.95.
Black velvet if you please. A sleek cigarette trouser looks très YSL-inspired and works as a chic alternative to the standard sparkly get-up. You know, just in case the tan doesn’t work it or it’s snowing and you need a Plan B. Always have a Plan B. In life too.
Just like Prosecco, sequins are a party essential. If head-to-toe sparkle is just too Strictlyfied for you, then opt for this glorious Second Female ‘Gloria’ Blouse and wear with distressed denim and heels.
If the ‘Gloria’ Blouse is just one sequin too far, then we also have the ‘Alyssa’, a delicate French Connection number with a pretty Peter Pan collar in VELVET! Style it à la MIC’s Millie Mackintosh with some faux fur and leather look jeans.
The trend-du-jour is without a doubt velvet (which makes us so happy!) and what is particularly popular is the velvet trouser suit (which divides us!). Depending on who you ask, the trouser suit is either super fashionable or, in the words of ‘boyfriend’ “makes you look like a magician.” Regardless, we adore this Benetton blazer and for those interested, yes, matching trousers are available.
If you make one partywear purchase this December, then we recommend this; the pleated midi in sparkly, shimmery copper metallic courtesy of fave Scandi brand, Saint Tropez (yeah, it has nothing to do with France). It even has an elasticated waist so all that turkey lurkey and wine and cheese won’t be a problem. Hooray!
Happy holidays! *Chinks glasses of Prosecco*
Over and out.
