How To: French Riviera Chic
Everyone’s heading to France this week for some sort of sporting event. While we do enjoy watching fit sportsmen running around in shorts (no shame here) we are much more excited about the prospect of a brief sojourn in the South of France. The French Riviera, otherwise known as the playground of the rich and famous, is the perfect place to sport a Breton and some culottes. If not there, then where?
Don’t have a yacht? No invite to Cannes? Poor thing. Well, worry not. With these select wardrobe choices, you will have them fooled.
The Little White Dress
Looks great with a golden glow. Wear with espadrilles and a denim jacket for the cooler evenings.
Keep it classic with a Breton tee or, for a little change, why not try a striped dress? Basically, just wear stripes in any form. So long as it’s not your contour.
Itty Bitty Shorts
While the Côte d’Azur is certainly a more polished take on your average holiday wardrobe, don’t be afraid to make like the queen of Saint-Tropez herself, Ms Bardot and throw in a few boho touches. Itty bitty shorts will do the trick and won’t look a bit out of place strolling along the Baie de Pampelonne.
Beachwear in the 1930’s pretty much consisted of chic one piece swimsuits worn with pyjamas. We can get on board with that. In other words, we’re talking about the wide-legged trouser. Call them palazzo pants, crop them and call them culottes, either way, just make sure they are really loose and really comfortable.
Side note: Beach pyjamas were introduced by none other than Coco Chanel. Who else?
The Finishing Touches
Beach braids are one thing, but who has the time? Spritz a little Bumble and Bumble Surf Spray onto damp or dry hair for Brigitte Bardot worthy locks. Twist up into a messy top knot with some loose tendrils and then shake it out for evening cocktails.
Espadrilles are the summer shoe and you shouldn’t be without a pair.
A straw hat will keep your face porcelain perfect and works wonders for bad hair days. Albeit, they are a nuisance to pack but for instant chic, there is no better option. Save for a pair of Tom Ford sunglasses perhaps.
See you in Saint-Tropez.
